Four Top Tips for the Perfect Ski Holiday
Get Ski-Fit Before You Go
Skiing and snowboarding are surprisingly physical and use muscles that you probably don’t use every day. To get the most out of your holiday and help prevent injuries, it’s a great idea to do some fitness preparation. A few weeks of exercises like squats, lunges, and core work will make a huge difference to your stamina and reduce those dreaded second-day aches.
Never Underestimate the Mountain Sun
Even on a cloudy day, the sun at high altitude is incredibly strong, and the reflection from the snow doubles its intensity. Always pack and apply high-factor sun cream (at least SPF 30) to all exposed skin. A good pair of UV-protection sunglasses or goggles is also absolutely essential to protect your eyes from the powerful glare.
Dress in Layers for All Conditions
The weather in the mountains can change in the blink of an eye, going from a sunny T-shirt day to a freezing blizzard. The key to staying comfortable is to dress in layers. A thermal base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof/windproof outer jacket and trousers will allow you to add or remove layers to stay at the perfect temperature all day long.
Lessons Aren't Just for Beginners
Don’t think of ski school as just for first-timers! Even if you’re a confident intermediate or advanced skier, booking a lesson can be one of the best investments you make. A good instructor can help you iron out bad habits, build your confidence on more challenging terrain like moguls or steeper slopes, or even provide a safe and knowledgeable guide for your first taste of off-piste skiing.
